A woman accused of killing her three housemates in Virginia was apprehended by police in New York after a high-speed automobile pursuit.
Two days after discovering her roommates dead during a welfare check inside their Fredericksburg home, the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office arrested Alyssa Jane Venable, 23, on I-86 in Steuben County.
The lady faces three charges of second-degree murder and using a handgun to commit a felony, although investigators are unsure of how or why she killed her roommates.
According to police, the victims, Robert John McGuire, 77, Gregory Scott Powell, 60, and Carol Anne Reese, 65, all of Spotsylvania, died as a result of upper-body trauma.
Authorities apprehended Venable after spotting a gray 2009 Honda Civic that matched her known vehicle’s description and attempting a traffic check. Venable refused to stop, and officials launched a high-speed pursuit that reached 100 mph.
The use of a tire deflation device during the pursuit led to the automobile’s crash. Without any further incident, officials arrested the culprit. Officials transported her to a local hospital for treatment. There were no further injuries sustained during the chase.
The New York State Police are working to obtain a fugitive warrant for Venable, and they will shortly arrange for extradition. An inquiry is ongoing, and The Independent has contacted the New York State Police for comment.
The suspect’s grandmother, Jane Venable, told WUSA9 that she wanted investigators to look for her granddaughter as someone who could endanger themselves.
“I pray that the authorities look for her as a person in danger, because we believe she is in danger, if not from others, then from herself.
“I’m pleading for the authorities to consider someone who is also in desperate need of help.”
Police and a former coworker said the woman had a history of violent outbursts. Following an altercation at a McDonald’s where she worked last month, police charged Alyssa with assault and battery.
“If something was wrong, she’d snap at you quick,” Bianca Smith, a former coworker, told the site. “I feel like she was in an irritated mood all the time.”
Neighbors said they thought Venable had moved in about a month ago. The connection between the victims remains unclear.
