Bill Hodge, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, presents Chief Richardson, of the Emporia Police Department,a reward check for an anonymous tip which led to the arrest of a wanted felon.
The Emporia Greensville Chamber of Commerce, the city of Emporia and the Greensville County Sheriff's office sponsor the Crime line 634 1111 that offers rewards up to $500 for tips that lead to an arrest.
The crime line will sponsor a Citizens Crime Awareness Seminar May 15th 7pm at the Greensville Elementary School.
Chief Richardson and Sheriff Edwards will host and lead the discussion. Everyone is welcome.
On Thursday of this week, the Riparian Woman's Club recently held its annual Spring Banquet in the Social Hall of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Fifty-two members and guests attended the event. Special guests attending were Ann Bryant, who installed the new officers for 2008-2010, and Annette Rodgers, the new Southside District President.
Julian Mitchell catered the delicious dinner and Reverend Barbara Lewis gave the invocation and blessing.
Riparian Banquet / Installation of New Officers
Following the dinner, Ann Bryant installed the following new officers:
Lois Williams presented awards to individuals and departments that the Riparians received at the state level. Ruth Tillar, outgoing Riparian President, was also honored for her dedication and service to the Riparians for the past two years with a donation in her name to the Riparian Scholarship Fund. Sara Burton was honored for her hard work and dedication to planting and maintaining the gardens for the many beautification projects sponsored by the Riparians. Since Sara also maintains the gardens at Village View, a bench has been placed in the Village View gardens in her honor. Several Riparians were also recognized for perfect attendance for the past year.
The Riparian Woman's Club was organized in September of 1942 and is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, GFWC Virginia as well as the Southside District of GFWC Virginia.
